Geelong is set to be a big player in this year's trade period once again, with reports the Cats are targeting GWS young gun, Jacob Hopper.

Sportsday radio reports the Cats are serious about their pursuit of the former top 10 draft pick, who has played 16 games in two seasons for the Giants.

Hopper's brother currently lives in Torquay, which is said to be a strong link which could lure him back home to Victoria.

“Geelong have a lot on their plate at the end of the season and Jacob Hopper is at the front of their list," Mitch Cleary told sportday.

“He is still weighing up his future. GWS are confident they can keep him but we understand Geelong is at the front of the queue to secure his services.

"His brother Zach lives in Torquay, they're both keen surfers and the Cats are doing their best to secure Jacob Hopper at season's end.

"Geelong footy club is looking for another inside midfield bull and they believe he's gettable."

North Melbourne, Carlton, Collingwood and Essendon have also previously been linked with a possible move for the 20-year-old.

Hopper was recruited via the Giants Academy in 2015. He is a prolific inside mid and wins plenty of the footy and is equally a skilled as an outside midfielder.

He has averaged 17 disposals, 3.8 tackles and a goal every two games in his 16 career matches thus far.

He has not played since round seven this season, however, with an ankle and finger injury keeping him out of the side. He burst onto the scene in his debut, collecting 32 disposals against the Gold Coast Suns in round eight last year.

Meanwhile, Cleary also said he believes out-of-form Cat Steven Motlop will be leave Geelong at season's end, with North Melbourne and Richmond keeping a close eye on the 26-year-old.

Motlop has struggled for form this year, averaging 19 disposals and kicking 17 goals, playing every game so far this season.
