Despite reports that they will miss out on any Friday night matches in 2020, Carlton fans will have the opportunity to see their team open up two of the first three rounds on Thursday evening.

As reported by The Herald Sun, the Blues will take on old rivals Essendon to begin round three, exactly two weeks after opening the home and away season against Richmond on the traditional Thursday night fixture.

With the AFL removing Carlton from the Friday night stage in 2019, there will be an opportunity for other teams to play under the bright lights next season as teams like Carlton look to earn the privilege after numerous bottom four finishes.

Channel Seven suggested that Blues fans should prepare for yet another blockbuster all-Vic clash as early as round two, with a match against Collingwood awaiting announcement. The Magpies clash likely won't be prime time, but it will be a great opportunity for Carlton to test themselves against three top eight teams from 2019.

The 2020 season marks David Teague's first official season as a head coach, and games against Richmond, Collingwood and Essendon will provide a good challenge to open the season.

The AFL are expected to release the full fixture Thursday.
