In the aftermath of the AFL rejecting Port Adelaide's request to wear their Prison Bar guernseys in the Round 8 Showdown against the Crows, the Power are now considering legal action.

After Collingwood made it clear to the AFL that the wearing of the prison bar guernsey wasn't something they agreed with, the AFL opted to decline the Power's request to wear the guernsey, leaving Port Adelaide officials and many within the Power community, angry and disappointed.

But now, the Power may take it a step further and go over the AFL's head.

During a recent press conference, Port Adelaide CEO Matthew Richardson said the club were "extremely disappointed" with the AFL's decision to reject their bid to wear the black and white stripes.

โ€œWeโ€™re extremely disappointed with the decision. Weโ€™re disappointed for the club, but more importantly weโ€™re really disappointed for our fans,โ€ Richardson said.

โ€œThis decision is not just about Port Adelaide, itโ€™s actually about the passion and connection that all fans have for their clubs and weโ€™re extremely disappointed.

โ€œItโ€™s an issue that is too important for our club and our people so itโ€™s not going to go away.โ€

Collingwood president Eddie McGuie and Port Adelaide chairman David Koch again made headlines this week over the Prison Bar guernsey.

Richardson added that although the club's focus will go into this week's clash against Brisbane, the Power will continue to converse with the AFL to find a common ground.

โ€œThe most important thing for us really is weโ€™ve got a game to play against Brisbane this weekend, thatโ€™ll be our focus then weโ€™ll get to the week after,โ€ he said.

โ€œBut weโ€™ll certainly regroup and work out where to (from) here.

โ€œAs weโ€™ve said all along, the issue is not going to go away.

โ€œItโ€™s an issue thatโ€™s too important for our club and our people.

โ€œWeโ€™ll continue to have our conversations with the AFL we need to have in order to find a solution.โ€

  1. As much as we hate the filth, on this one they are in the right.

Why is it that the afl (VFL) takes such a stance… why can one club determine what another club can wear?

Couple this with the “allowance” made by the afl (vfl) to the ‘wobbles in that they do not “have to have” a clash jumper?

Don’t the ‘wobbles get enough of a ‘leg up’ as it is (dream fixture)?

It highlights that the afl is in name only – it is the vfl, and it is only “geared” to the benefit of Vic clubs – in particular a favored 4 or 5…..

  2. Port should be able to wear the prison bar jumper anytime they want… in the SANFL where it belongs.
The Power wear Teal. That’s what they agreed to. A deal is a deal. If they were “hoodwinked” by the AFL or Eddie, they need to get over it and get better at negotiation.
Kochie is not the smartest President around….
