Police are investigating a sexual assault claim against Geelong-champion Gary Ablett senior.

The woman, aged 55, told Police that the alleged incident occurred outside a mutual friend's house in the late 1970's.

Victoria Police interviewed the woman on two occasions in October according to the Herald Sun.

“Detectives from Central Gippsland SOCIT are investigating a sexual offence dating back to the late 1970s," Police spokesman Sergeant Cameron Scott confirmed.

“As the investigation is ongoing, it would be inappropriate to make any further comments.”

The woman at the centre of the allegations explained her motives as wanting to move on with her life, decades after the alleged incident.

“Every time I see him, I lose the plot,” she said.

“It has come to a head and I have had enough.”

There have been no reports suggesting Ablett senior is guilty, simply that the alleged incident is being investigated.

Ablett played 248 AFL games, winning three Coleman medals, eight All-Australian honours, and kicking 1030 goals.
