Police are investigating a sexual assault claim against Geelong-champion Gary Ablett senior.

The woman, aged 55, told Police that the alleged incident occurred outside a mutual friend's house in the late 1970's.

Victoria Police interviewed the woman on two occasions in October according to the Herald Sun.

โ€œDetectives from Central Gippsland SOCIT are investigating a sexual offence dating back to the late 1970s," Police spokesman Sergeant Cameron Scott confirmed.

โ€œAs the ยญinvestigation is ongoing, it would be inappropriate to make any further comments.โ€

The woman at the centre of the allegations explained her motives as wanting to move on with her life, decades after the alleged incident.

โ€œEvery time I see him, I lose the plot,โ€ she said.

โ€œIt has come to a head and I have had enough.โ€

There have been no reports suggesting Ablett senior is guilty, simply that the alleged incident is being investigated.

Ablett played 248 AFL games, winning three Coleman medals, eight All-Australian honours, and kicking 1030 goals.
