Collingwood captain Scott Pendlebury admitted that his future may lie outside of Collingwood.
The Pies have tabled a one-year offer to Pendlebury despite the club yet to appoint a senior coach for 2022 and beyond.
Speaking on Triple M, Pendlebury said that he was confident a deal would get done with the Pies.
"I'm trying to work through that at the moment with the footy club," Pendlebury said.
"There's an offer on the table which came last week, we're just working through that. I'm confident something will happen in the short-term.
"As I've said a couple of times throughout the year, it's been a pretty big year for our club. These things are just taking longer than normal, I think something will get wrapped up fairly soon.
"At this stage it's a one-year deal.
"If I sign with Collingwood, at this stage it's a one-year deal. We're trying to work through the best thing for the club. I understand when you get to my age you are slightly lower on the priority list.
Pendlebury went on to say he was yet to make a final decision with his future beyond his playing days to be taken into consideration.
The silky left-footer said that he harbours ambitions to coach in the future and plans to do that away from Collingwood. Even if that means he has to leave while still playing the game.
"I do have ambitions to coach, I've said that," said Pendlebury.
"I'd like to step away from our football club though and just get some experience elsewhere. All I've known since I've been 17 is this football club.
"I really do want to be a one-club player. If they (other clubs) want to offer me future coaching gigs, for a couple of years time I'll have a look at it."
