Collingwood have lost half-back Isaac Quaynor for this weekend's trip to face Adelaide due to the AFL's health and safety protocols.

As COVID cases continue to soar through winter, AFL clubs are facing the overwhelming impacts of the spread, with last weekend seeing 11 players miss action due to COVID protocols.

Brisbane were the hardest hit after being forced into nine changes - five of which came under health and safety protocols - for their journey top Melbourne to face the Bombers, which they lost by 10 points.

Adelaide, Gold Coast, Essendon, West Coast and GWS also lost personnel to COVID protocols for Round 17, with Collingwood now the latest club to be impacted by the virus.

Multiple reports confirmed on Thursday that Quaynor will be sidelined for the coming week due to the protocols, forcing him out of Craig McRae's lineup for the Magpies' bout with the Crows on Saturday.

McRae is set to name star defender Darcy Moore in his side to make the trip to South Australia, however the All-Australian backman will remain a test as he continues to recover from a knee injury sustained against the Suns earlier this month.

Moore narrowly missed selection for his side's win over North Melbourne last Saturday and will again be assessed in the build-up to this weekend.

McRae will be forced into at least one further change for Round 18, with midfielder Taylor Adams suffering a head knock against the Kangaroos and entering the required concussion protocols.

Young ruckman Aiden Begg is nearing a chance to be in McRae's selection mix, while Brodie Grundy (knee), Jordan De Goey (quad), Jack Madgen (thumb) and Harvey Harrison (hamstring) currently occupy the casualty ward at the AIA Centre.

Saturday's matchup with Adelaide at Adelaide Oval could see Collingwood claim their eighth straight win, with the match also set to see skipper Scott Pendlebury bring up game 350 in black and white.
