North Melbourne's Tarryn Thomas will spend time away from the club following serious allegations made against the Kangaroos player.

Several allegations made against Thomas came to light this week, with North Melbourne confirming on Wednesday that they have been aware of formal allegations from last year.

Thomas has been required to undertake the needed training and education to deal with his behavioural issues, however the club has since confirmed the midfielder will be away from the club for the foreseeable future after North Melbourne were made aware of a new allegation by the AFL Integrity Unit.

"Tarryn Thomas will take time away from the club after the AFL's integrity unit informed North Melbourne of a new allegation of inappropriate behaviour on Wednesday afternoon," a club statement reads.

"As detailed in the club's statement earlier on Wednesday, the club and Thomas made a commitment to co-operate fully in any investigation if new information was presented.

"In light of this new information, Thomas will remain away from the club while the AFL gathers further information about the allegations.

"In the meantime, Thomas will be expected to meet his obligations around his respectful behaviour training and education program, as outlined in club correspondence earlier today."

In a statement released earlier on Wednesday, president Sonja Hood detailed that the club has " built a significant and multi-layered program which includes respectful relationships education, working with psychologists, mentoring, peer support and community outreach for Tarryn".

Thomas is set to face court for an unrelated matter after being charged by Victoria Police with one count of threatening to distribute an intimate image last month.

Thomas joined North Melbourne through the 2018 National Draft and has since played 57 games in the blue and white.
