North Melbourne great John Blakey will return to Arden Street after signing with the club as a Senior Assistant coach, per nmfc.com.au.
Blakey played 359 games in the VFL/AFL, including 224 with the Kangaroos, which included two premierships in 1996 and 1999.
Following his playing career, Blakey has become a highly accomplished assistant coach, having worked under Leigh Matthews upon retirement, contributing to the Lions' third consecutive flag in 2003.
Blakey joined the Swans at the end of 2006 and spent 14 successful years at the club, highlighted by the 2012 premiership and has also worked with current Kangaroos coach Rhys Shaw while he was an assistant at the Swans.
“It’s really exciting to have John return to Arden St,” football boss Brady Rawlings said.
“We know the club has a special place in his heart and he knows what this club is all about.
“He has built an impressive resume over his playing and coaching career which is going to be really valuable to us.
“He’s tasted the ultimate success as both a player and coach, and there is no doubt he will be a tremendous asset to our club.”
Blakey's son, Nick, came through the Swans Academy and was drafted in the 2018 AFL Draft after chosing not to join North Melbourne as a father-son recruit.
