Todd Viney has been appointed the new General Manager of Football at North Melbourne,  with his arrival coming after several changes to the football department as the club takes a new structure in management.

Viney will oversee all on-field matters, and with his decorated experience he will be able to work with Alastair Clarkson to move the club in the right direction.

Viney has had years of experience both on and off-field, including 233 games over 12 years with Melbourne as a former captain of the club.

He was also listed in the Demons' team of the century and won the club's best and fairest award twice.

Viney will seamlessly fit into his new role after 15 years of coaching at Hawthorn and Adelaide, and many roles back at the Demons for eight years, including a caretaker coaching role.

Viney will be working with staff to oversee both men's and women's programs after his three years away from the game. Other roles include coaching, operations, high performance, medical services and player development.

His knowledge in leadership, player management and coaching will further add to the club's chance of moving up the ladder towards a finals campaign.

North Melbourne's CEO Ben Amarfio spoke to North Melbourne Media and is positive about the future the kangaroos have with the new appointment.

“Todd is a widely respected figure of the game with great football nous, and he will be a huge asset to our club," Amarfio said.

“Todd’s vast experience in a range of football roles has given him an understanding of all aspects of the game. We look forward to him leading our football program and working alongside Alastair.”

Amarfio also ensured that the departing staff were paid respect for their time and effort into the club's operations.

“Dan joined the club last year after eight seasons with Melbourne in various football roles, including the club’s GM of Football Operations,” Amarfio said.

“Dan is a quality individual who worked incredibly hard this year and did a lot of great work but this is the harsh reality of the industry when you restructure a football department.

“The same goes for Heath and Anthony, who have been wonderful contributors to our club and showed great commitment to their roles.”
