North Melbourne coach David Nobel has challenged Jaidyn Stephenson to make the most of his talents.

Stephenson is expected to rotate between the forward line and midfield at his new club after predominately used as a forward at the Magpies.

The ability has never been an issue for Stephenson but his work ethic, particularly across the ground has been questionable, which is what Nobel wants to see Stephenson improve.

"I just want him to be the best player he can be and understanding what being a pro looks like in regards to maximising your ability," Noble told AFL.com.au's Callum Twomey.

"We've seen lots of players who have great ability but never maximised what they may have. I don't think that's the case in Jaidyn's case. He's a young, energetic player who has a lot of football knowledge.

"He's been really impressive. We've had him up in the midfield, down forward and a bit of a blend. He's come to work ready to play."

Stephenson broke onto the scene as a mercurial forward who kicked 38 goals and won the Rising Star award in his debut season.

However, in the two years after Stephenson kicked a combined 38 goals as form and off-field issues prevented his growth.

It is hoped that a fresh start at the Kangaroos will revitalise the 22-year-olds stuttering career and return him to the form that made him one of the hottest prospects in the game.
