Melbourne have provided an update on Christian Petracca, Bayley Fritsch and Charlie Spargo ahead of Friday night's must-win semi-final clash against Brisbane.

It was revealed earlier in the week that Petracca had suffered a minor hairline fracture during the Demons' loss to Sydney, but the club has not ruled out the Norm Smith medallist from playing this weekend.

Club Doctor Laura Lallenec said that Melbourne's main concern was the corky that Petracca suffered, rather than the fracture.

“The harder bit of the injury was that he had a big kick to his calf, which resulted in a corky and that actually was bothering him more," Lallenec said.

“Thankfully, it’s really settled down and he’s done everything right. We’ve discussed his injury with a specialist and they’re really happy that this injury is stable and that he’s safe to get out there and play.

"Today was really about getting him out training, making sure that he’s functional, that he’s able to run around, that he’s comfortable and he’s really proven that today."

Forward Fritsch was sent for precautionary scans after suffering knee soreness, but has been cleared of damage ahead of the do-or-die final. Meanwhile Spargo, who suffered a hit to the throat in the 22-point qualifying final loss, has been cleared of any fractures.

Lallenec said the club was hopeful Spargo would be a test to line up in the Friday night clash.

"He does have some bruising around his vocal chords, so that's something we like to keep a really close eye on...he's been seeing a specialist every two days," Lallenec said.

"[We need] to make sure that swelling is improving which it definitely is, so today was really precautionary looking after him early in the week, so we can get him going later in the week and hopefully have him ready to go for Friday."

Melbourne will host Brisbane at the MCG on Friday to earn their spot in the preliminary finals, scheduled to begin at 7:50pm AEST.
