Melbourne defender Steven May made his debut for the Demons against Geelong over the weekend. As if the 80-point loss wasn’t enough for the defeated Demons, they will now have to play without May as he recovers from a groin injury.

“Steven experienced some pain in his groin during the game against Geelong and as a result, wasn’t able to finish the match,” Mahoney told Melbourne Media.

“Steven has pulled up a bit sore from the game, so it has been decided that he won’t be available for selection this week.

“Given the tight time frame, we want to see how that groin settles, so we will give it some time before making an informed decision over the course of the week” Mahoney said.

The key defender awaits results from scans taken on Monday afternoon. The club will determine how long May will be sidelined with the injury once the results have been confirmed.

Melbourne looks to win its first game against the also win-less Essendon Bombers as the two clubs are set for battle this Friday night.
