Carlton has confirmed that youngster Matt Carroll suffered a season-ending ACL rupture in the Blues' win on Saturday night.

Carroll has been a revelation in a dark year for the Blues, with his marking, running power and skill on the wing helping the Blues move the footy effectively.

He kicked three goals and had his standout game of the breakthrough season last week in the club's drought-breaking win.

“Matt had been in excellent form this season and was coming off a strong performance the week prior, so clearly this is a disappointing setback for him,” Carlton General Manager of Football Chris Davies said.

“While we're all disappointed for Matt, we know how resilient he is, which will serve him well throughout his recovery.

“Our priority will be supporting Matt, with the Club and its medical team guiding him through every stage of his rehabilitation.”

His move from defence to the wing this season has proven a masterstroke and he looks an important long-term player for the Blues despite having to win his list spot back in last year's Supplemental Selection Period.

He has averaged 14 disposals this season and has 27 career games to his name.

He is the third young Blue to suffer an ACL rupture since the start of last season, with midfield dynamo Jagga Smith missing last year as a result, and defender Harry O'Farrell still sidelined.
