Gold Coast small forward Malcolm Rosas Jnr has been told by the club that he is free to explore his options despite being contracted until the end of 2025.
Rosas was taken as an Academy pre-selection in the 2019 National Draft and has been building a handy career as a pressure forward for the Suns, resulting in 34 games across 2022 and 2023.
However, a drop-off in senior matches saw him feature only seven times this year under new coach Damien Hardwick, as others have been favoured.
Highly-touted Gold Coast Academy prospect Leonardo Lombard, while projecting long-term as a big-bodied midfielder, is likely to make his Suns start as a mid-sized forward, while Hardwick already has Ben Ainsworth, Ben Long and Bailey Humphrey as medium options, making it difficult for the 23-year-old to have an impact.
Not to mention the drafting of Jake Rogers as a genuine small forward, who, in his debut year, played eight games.
Gold Coast has informed forward Malcolm Rosas he is free to explore a trade this off-season should he find a suitor.
Rosas is contracted for 2025 + played 7 AFL games this year after 19 last year. The Suns have Academy forward/mid Leo Lombard arriving next year @7NewsMelbourne— Mitch Cleary (@cleary_mitch) August 28, 2024
According toย Channel 7's Mitch Cleary, the Suns are willing to help facilitate a move for Rosas if a deal can be struck.
It comes as the club is set to be very active in both the upcoming trade and draft periods, as Daniel Rioli and John Noble have both requested a trade up north.
Jack Lukosius has been heavily linked to South Australia after falling out of favour late in the season whilst the arrival of Lombard, whilst planning for the likely arrival of 2025 prospect Zeke Uwland (younger brother of Bodhi).
