Essendon legend Matthew Lloyd has opened up about his desire to return to clubland one day.
Lloyd, who kicked 926 goals from 270 games for Essendon, finished his playing career in 2009.
Since then, he has worked in media and as coach of Melbourne private school Haileybury's First XVIII team.
Speaking on Nine's The Sunday Footy Show, Lloyd said his time spent developing junior players, mixed with the struggles his former club is experiencing, has made him want to return to Essendon in a working capacity.
"What I love about Haileybury is win-loss. Seeing people develop, seeing people get better and trying to help them develop," Lloyd said.
"At some point in my life I would love to be involved at clubland.
"Not as a senior coach, some role within a football department.
"I think the standards at the club have been pretty low in terms of standards and following structure. You see what Collingwood have, you know what Collingwood have? There is something within their football club which is so special which has them keep performing and that takes a lot of good people.
"I would love to be involved with players, standards, the culture, sticking to game plan, supporting the coaches in that."
Essendon is currently searching for its next senior coach after sacking Brad Scott mid-season.
Former Bombers James Hird and Mark McVeigh are the leading contenders for the senior coaching gig.
The club's president, Andrew Welsh, is also a former player at the club and would likely love to have a man of Lloyd's football nous and Essendon pedigree back within the four walls at Windy Hill.
Lloyd won three Coleman Medals, five All-Australian blazers, a premiership, and was captain of the club during his 15-year career at Essendon.
