Brisbane defender Darcy Gardiner is expected to be sidelined with a hamstring injury he sustained in the Thursday night win over Geelong at GMHBA Stadium.

Gardiner was tasked with curbing the influence of star Cat Jeremy Cameron, and did so effectively before clutching at his hamstring in the final term.

There's also minor concern over gun Lion Zac Bailey, who was managed late in the contest, although coach Chris Fagan it's nothing to worry about.

"Gardiner's got a hamstring, 'Bails' just had a bit of tightness, we just didn't take any risk with him once we knew we had the game won, so I wouldn't expect him to miss," Fagan said in his post-match address.

"But I think Darcy might have a decent hamstring injury. Don't know the extent of it yet, obviously, which is a pity for him. He gets injured a lot, and played a pretty decent game tonight on Cameron until that moment. Fingers crossed it's not a serious one."

It would be a cruel blow for Gardiner, who has suffered serious knee and shoulder injuries in recent years.

The 30-year-old has fought back from his extended time on the sidelines, playing 37 games in the last four years.

Gardiner, featured in the losing grand final against Collingwood, which was one of four games he played in 2023, missed the 2024 triumph before claiming the flag last year.

The other injury concern is star midfielder Lachie Neale, who copped an errant knee to the head from teammate Cam Rayner in the second term.

Neale looked unstable in the middle of the ground following the contact, and was subsequently pulled from the ground once the play had been stopped.

The two-time Brownlow Medallist passed the required testing and returned to the match, with Fagan providing an update.

"It seemed OK. It's hard when you're the coach to know exactly what's going on in all those instances. I'm down on the bench, they got him off pretty quickly," he said.

"He got checked out, he was passed to be OK and continued on for the rest of the game. I thought that was all done pretty well."

Observers lauded the process of the ARC's (AFL Review Centre) intervention in stopping play to remove Neale from the field, despite his reluctancy.
