The Brisbane Lions have hired Gold Coast Suns' recruiting manager Domenic Ambrogio to fill the Lions' vacant list manager position.

Ambrogio has served under Suns' list manager Scott Clayton for the past eight years.

Ambrogio is seen as Clayton's right hand man, having served under him for more than 15 years at both the Western Bulldogs and Gold Coast.

The Lions' list manager position has been vacant since late last year when Peter Schwab left the club to become the umpiring director at the AFL.

The appointment is crucial for the Lions' as they seek to lock away their emerging young players, including key forward Josh Schache, who is in the last year of his contract.

The Lions are also deciding on a captaincy change with Tom Rockliff nominating potential captains.
