Former Richmond forward and lightning strike survivor Steely Green's streak of luck has returned with the small forward securing a train-on spot at the Tigers this summer.

Green was delisted from Richmond's squad at the end of the 2026 season after kicking 16 goals from 20 games and averaging 10.9 disposals and 2.2 tackles per match.

From the outside, it seemed like rough decision to delist Green after he played nearly every game of the season, however, the 22-year-old has earned a reprieve according to AFL Media.

Green rose to football fame after a story broke that he had once been struck by lightning as a 14-year-old while sailing on the Swan River in Perth. He was saved by wearing a pair of boots which helped stop the current by breaking the circuit.

The 22-year-old was plucked out of South Fremantle with Pick 55 in the 2022 National Draft.

The 179cm forward kicked 32 goals from his 45 games.

Richmond has made nine changes to its senior list with Nathan Broad (retired), Liam Fawcett (delisted), Green (delisted but with a train-on spot), Oliver Hayes-Brown (delisted), Dion Prestia (retired), Samson Ryan (delisted), Kaleb Smith (delisted), Tyler Sonsie (delisted) and James Trezise (delisted) departing.

The Tigers have brought in Nathan O'Driscoll (Fremantle) and ruck Kieren Briggs (GWS) during the off-season.
