Young Brisbane forward Tom Berry has requested a trade to Queensland rival Gold Coast.

Berry has played just the 20 games for the Lions in four years with the club after making the move from Victoria through the draft, joining his brother Jarrod in Brisbane.

Reports from AFL.com.au earlier this week suggested the Suns have shown an interest in Berry, who is rated as a formidable pressure forward.

Now confirmed by the club, Berry has requested a move to Gold Coast, turning down an extension offer from Brisbane.

“It was obviously a very tough decision for me as I absolutely love the Club with both the playing group and staff, but a decision I believe is going to be best for my career,” Berry said in a club statement.

“I’ll be forever grateful of the Lions for letting me be part of something so special and a group of people that feels like family.

“The opportunity to play AFL alongside Jarrod is a huge highlight in my life and I thank the club so much to make that possible.

“I’ve loved every moment at the club, and the relationships and friendships I’ve been able to create in my four years I’ll cherish forever.”

Suns list boss Craig Cameron confirmed the club's interest in Berry on Thursday, speaking highly of the 22-year-old on Trade Radio.

"We see Tom coming in to be a pressure forward for us," Cameron said.

"We're a side that obviously likes to keep the ball in our forward half and can see that Tom would come in and really assist us in that.

"He's an ultra-competitive player, he's got good speed and he loves to tackle so he has all the attributes as a pressure forward.

"And he's a high-quality young man so we think he'd really add to our group."

Gold Coast hold picks 7, 25, 31, 34, 43, 52, 67, 70 and 79 for the 2022 National Draft.

Brisbane have shown an interest in Suns utility Jack Bowes, with Berry potentially able to be part of a trade that could include the contract Gold Coast player.
