The AFL has updated their vaccination policy to include the VFL, VFLW and NAB Leagues, with each player within these competitions now needing to be fully vaccinated ahead of their 2022 seasons.

Persons tied to any of the numerous clubs will have until November 24 to receive their first dose of either the AstraZeneca or Pfizer vaccine and will need to have obtained their second by December 22.

In line with the AFL and AFLW mandates, players and officials from these competitions will be locked out of their respective clubs if they are unwilling to become inoculated against the Covid virus.

While this mandate now covers every player within Victoria, Cal Twomey of AFL Media has claimed that the directive has not included the SANFL or WAFL competitions.

However, it has been reported that the league has requested the South Australian and Western Australian competitions introduce a similar policy ahead of next season.

This order from league headquarters was put forward due to the fact that AFL listed players will take part in each of these secondary competitions across the course of 2022.

The AFL confirmed as much within a statement released on Wednesday morning.

"The AFL has written to the SANFL and WAFL to recommend a similar policy is adopted in those state league competitions," the AFL announcement proclaimed.

"The AFL will continue to work with teams from states that participate in the national championships on confirming their specific dates of vaccination."

Twomey also reported that grassroots clubs, players and officials have not fallen under this latest policy release as they will continue to receive health directives from their respective state or territory governments.
