Gun Demons recruit Ben Brown will meet with a knee specialist on Wednesday after experiencing swelling in the area.

The 28-year old missed the back half of the 2020 season for the Kangaroos with a knee injury, which appears to still be causing him trouble.

Brown underwent minor knee surgery in September after injuring it the previous month.

The Demons confirmed in a statement on Tuesday night that after having scans Brown would consult a specialist.

“Following scans on Monday afternoon, it has been decided that we will get the opinion of knee specialist Julian Feller to determine the best course of action,” Demons general manager of football performance Alan Richardson told Melbourne Media.

“The club will be in a position to provide further information following Ben’s consultation on Wednesday.”

Demons great Garry Lyon said on SEN radio on Wednesday morning that the recurring injury should raise alarm bells.

“It’s not ideal, I think is the best way to put it,” Lyon told SEN Breakfast.

“It’s not ideal if you read between the lines. There’s no pain but a lot of swelling.

“So there’s something structurally wrong and he wasn’t able to get through last year with a similar problem.

“That’s not the sort of news that Melbourne fans would be wanting.”

Brown was traded from North Melbourne to Melbourne last trade period along with Pick 28 in exchange for Picks 26, 33 and a future fourth rounder.

He has booted 287 goals from 130 AFL games since making his debut in 2014.
