Former Richmond forward Jake King could potentially spend over 10 years in prison if he is found guilty, according to Herald Sunย journalist Anthony Dowsley.
King was arrested on Wednesday afternoon outside of his tattoo parlour City of Ink in South Melbourne, and has been charged with six offences.
The 33-year-old was charged with threats to kill, making threats to kill, two counts of threats to inflict serious injury and also two counts of using a carriage service to harass.
Victoria Police also arrested current Hawthorn and ex-Richmond forward Ty Vickery at the scene, although he was released without being charged after he was questioned by police.
King was bailed out, but will face the Melbourne Magistrates Court on November 15, and Dowsley believes if King is found guilty of all charges, he could be looking at lengthy jail time.
โ(It is) an indictable crime. That means it can have a jail term affixed to it if found guilty,โ Dowsley toldย SEN Breakfastย on Thursday morning.
โThe very maximum (sentence) I believe is over 10 years.
โThis is a particular charge which will be heard through the Magistrates Court, where the penalties if found guilty are lesser, but if it then goes to the County or Supreme Court, it can be a heck of a lot more.โ
It is believed Vickery asked King to help retrieve money he was owed by a business partner, with the Herald Sunย reporting the sum is in excess of $100,000.
Dowsley said if the reports are true, Vickery could be facing charges
โIn any situation, if there has been some evidence that there has been threats made and if it is proven that anyone has asked to make threats on their behalf, then that is a criminal offence,โ Dowsley added.
