In great news for North Melbourne fans, young defensive stalwart Ben McKay has signed on with the club on a two-year extension.

McKay will stay on with North Melbourne until 2023 in a contract extension that will see him through until he becomes a restricted free agent.

McKay expressed his pleasure at signing on to the club's media.

“I’m really excited about what the future holds personally and also as a team," he said.

“I think the way 'Nobes' has come in and galvanised the group - he’s really driving some high standards around here, and I’m all for that.

“It’s going to be an exciting couple of years and I can’t wait to be a part of that.”

McKay made his debut for the Roos in 2017, and has established himself as an essential part of the team over the past couple of seasons.

The Melbourne-born big man has been in good form for North Melbourne despite being part of the bottom-placed side on the ladder.

The two-metre tall defender averages 6.8 spoils per game in 2021, as well as 1.5 tackles per game and is ranked 10th in the competition for effective disposals percentage per game.

The news of his re-signing will be music to the ears of North Melbourne's devoted fanbase, and with the club now targeting brother Harry to slot into their forward-line, things might be looking a bit more rosey at Arden Street in the near future.
