Kane Cornes has re-drafted the first five picks of the 2000 AFL draft on SEN's Footy SA.
The former Port star, who was taken in the draft, said himself, Alan Didak and Dom Cassisi were unlucky to miss the top five.
Topping Cornes' re-draft is ex-Saints star Nick Riewoldt, who was the original No. 1 pick. The star forward is a six-time best and fairest winner, five-time All-Australian and led St Kilda's goalkicking on four occasions.
“A walk-up Hall of Famer," Cornes said on Footy SA.
“Kid from Tasmania then Queensland. There was a lot of hype around him prior to the draft.
"His resumé is unbelievable. He made a name for himself taking marks running back with the flight of the ball.
“What a player he was.”
With the second pick, Cornes opted for Hawthorn veteran Shaun Burgoyne, who was originally taken with pick 12. The oldest player in the league at 37 years of age, Burgoyne is a four-time premiership player.
“This bloke doesn’t need an introduction. Port Adelaide’s first pick in 2000.”
“Played midfield and was one of the more dominant midfielders. Unfortunately, he left Port Adelaide and he’s done, I think, his best work at Hawthorn.
“Plays anywhere. Absolute superstar.”
Rounding out Cornes' top five was Adelaide's Scott Thompson - originally taken by Melbourne with pick 16, West Coast's Daniel Kerr - originally taken with pick 18 and North Melbourne's Drew Petrie - originally taken with pick 23.
