North Melbourne forward Lindsay Thomas has been handed a three-match ban for this hit on Casey's Corey Maynard in the VFL on Sunday.

The ban will effectively be a five-match break for Thomas due to a bye for Werribee in the VFL during that time.

The 29-year-old was playing for Werribee in the VFL last weekend, after being dropped from Brad Scott's side after the Roos' round five loss to Fremantle.

Maynard was stretchered from the field following the incident, which was deemed as careless conduct with severe impact and high contact.

In the same match, Melbourne's Jake Melksham was offered a one-match ban for two separate incidents.

The VFL suspension carries over into the AFL, meaning Thomas won't be eligible for senior selection until he has served his ban.
