Richmond coach Adem Yze has laughed off “noise” the Tigers would be better served losing to West Coast this weekend to all but lock in Pick 1 at this year's National Draft.
The Tigers have a golden opportunity to bank their third win of the season this weekend against an Eagles outfit which, while improved, remains vulnerable on the road.
“We don't listen to that noise, that's just noise,” Yze said.
“It would be pretty interesting if you went up to Toby Nankervis and said you didn't want to win this weekend; he'd probably punch you in the face and it would be warranted.
“We want to finish the season the right way; our Tiger army deserves it. Whether it's a win or putting on a performance our fans are proud of, that's what we're trying to strive for.”
Richmond's availability has been a significant issue this season, but the Tigers could regain all of Harry Armstrong, Noah Balta and Campbell Gray for Round 22.
The trio will have an intense session planned for the weekend with the VFL side having a bye, before a decision is made around their availability.
Yze pointed to those injuries as a handicap when quizzed about mounting pressure on his tenure, coming out of contract in 2027.
“We're really clear on the plan of our footy club. We're two years into a rebuild. This year we've had an unfortunate season with availability which really puts you under the pump,” Yze said.
“We're clear on the plan…realistically we're two years into a rebuild, we have to get games into our younger players but at the same time be really competitive.”
