Greater Western Sydney defender Caleb Marchbank has nominated Carlton as his club of choice for 2017.

Marchbank officially requested a trade from the Giants earlier this month.

The Blues beat Collingwood, Essendon and St Kilda in the race for Marchbank, with a trade now needing to be facilitated between the two clubs.

“The club will work closely with both Greater Western Sydney and Caleb’s management to come to a suitable arrangement,” Carlton's general manager of list management Stephen Silvagni said.

The Giants are likely to request Carlton's first round pick (No.5) as part of the deal.

The highly rated defender was recruited with pick No.6 in the 2014 national Draft and has played seven games in two seasons at the club, with injuries ruining his first two years at AFL level.
