Geelong will be without superstar Patrick Dangerfield against the Swans on Friday night after the club accepted his one-match ban on Tuesday afternoon.

Dangerfield was cited for his dangerous tackle on Carlton ruckman Matthew Kruezer, who was subsequently ruled out of the remainder of the game with concussion.

Dangerfield and the Cats thought about the decision overnight, but decided to go against challenging the Match Review Panel's decision.

“After seeking independent advice, the club has decided to accept the penalty handed down to Pat by the match review panel,” Geelong’s general manager of football Steve Hocking, told the club's website on Tuesday afternoon.

“The club reviewed all possibilities around the case in coming to this decision. We respect the fact that the match review panel has a challenging and difficult role and has to operate under high scrutiny.

“While there has been a lot of debate around Pat’s eligibility for the Brownlow Medal, Pat and the club have at all times remained focused on what is best for the team as we head towards to last part of the season.”

The 27-year-old midfielder was a clear favourite for the Brownlow Medal for most of the season, but is now ineligible for the individual award after receiving his suspension.

Richmond's Dustin Martin is now in the box seat to take home his first Brownlow Medal.
