Eagles star Josh Kennedy is recovering strongly from his off-season ankle surgery and is a chance to line up in round one, the first AFL fixture at Optus Stadium.
Kennedy experienced discomfort prior to Christmas and was sent in for surgery, placing his early season availability in doubt.
The two-time Coleman Medallist was spotted walking freely without a moon boot prior to team training on Monday at Lathlain Park.
West Coast coach Adam Simpson said Kennedy was a "little bit in front of what we thought" in terms of his recovery, and was hopeful he wouldn't miss any of the 2018 season.
"We're hoping to get him back into pre-season, so that's looking pretty promising," Simpson told reporters on Monday.
"It will be touch and go (to play round one) but we're hoping that getting out of that boot a couple of weeks earlier will get us more of a look towards round one."
Simpson was also quick to dismiss suggestions that the star forward should play closer to goal, pointing to his ability to cover the ground as a key strength of Kennedy's.
"That's just the way he plays. I don't think you can manage someone in that sense, that's what makes him so good," Simpson said.
"But to get him through a full season, and he's just on 30 now, we need to manage how we prepare him."
In more positive news for the Eagles, ruckman Nic Naitanui took part in training drills before working on his ruck-skills away from the main group.
The former All-Australian hasn't played since rupturing his ACL in round 22, 2016, but is targeting West Coast's final pre-season game against Fremantle on March 11 to make his return.
Elliot Yeo, Andrew Gaff and Lewis Jetta all took part in the session after recovering from injuries.
