Josh Dunkley has claimed his maiden best and fairest medal at the Western Bulldogs on Wednesday night, edging out Tom Liberatore to finish on top of the count.

Young gun Aaron Naughton rounded out the top three, with Marcus Bontempelli and Jack Macrae not far behind.

Dunkley's win comes just weeks after the star midfielder requested a trade out of the Kennel, keen to head north to Brisbane after turning down a lucrative offer from the Dogs.

The 25-year-old played 23 games in red, white and blue throughout the 2022 season, averaging 25.4 disposals, 6.1 tackles and 4.4 clearances.

Sam Darcy, who made his debut in Round 21 and went on to play four games for the season, earned the best first year player award.
