John O'Rourke has been appointed as Richmond's new president, officially stepping into the role in December.

O'Rourke has been a part of the Richmond board for seven years after joining the club back in November 2015.

O'Rouke has had a wide range of corporate exposure, having worked in investment ventures around the globe through Plenary, the company he founded and is chairman of.

Before founding Plenary, he held different corporate finance positions, including board director at Victoria Racing Club and Australian Grand Prix Corporation director.

Outgoing president Peggy O'Neal expressed her confidence in the appointment of O'Rouke as he looks to continue the success Richmond has had.

“John is a highly experienced director who has worked tirelessly on the Richmond board for the past seven years,” O'Neal said.

“John has outstanding business acumen. His appointment was unanimous and ensures a seamless transition into the next phase of this Club's evolution.”

Club director Kerry Ryan has also retired from the board, effective from October. Mary Padbury, an intellectual property and trade practices lawyer, will be replacing Ryan.

O'Neal has recognised Ryan's significance to the board and welcomes Padbury to the team.

“Kerry has been an outstanding director during the past nine years,” O'Neal said. “She has served on numerous committees and, importantly, chaired the risk, compliance and integrity committee during a time when all sporting clubs were dealing with rapid change,” O'Neal said.

“Kerry's passion and professionalism has been unwavering. We thank her for everything she has done for the Club during her time on the board.”

“We welcome Mary who is a highly experienced director with significant legal experience – this combined with her passion for the Richmond Football Club makes her an excellent addition to the board. I have no doubt she will make a great contribution.”
