Adelaide forward Josh Jenkins believes the AFL season should begin with a blockbuster double header in the near future.

Speaking to SEN SA, Jenkins was unsure that Carlton against Richmond was an appropriate fixture to start the season.

“Carlton might come out and make me look like a complete fool, but I’m not certain that it’s the biggest game we can come up with to open the season," Jenkins said on Wednesday afternoon.

Carlton and Richmond have opened the AFL season numerous times in the past 12 years, however Jenkins thinks it is time for the AFL to be creative.

“What about a double header? In Round 2 Richmond and Collingwood play each other, I reckon that would be a pretty good way to start off the season," he added.

“Play that at 6pm AEDT time and then go into a double-header and the premiers get to kick-off their season in Perth and start at 8pm.

“What about something like that, instead of top versus bottom from last year.”

The Blues play Richmond on Thursday night at the MCG.
