Geelong star Jack Steven has been discharged from hospital earlier than expected, reports Seven News and Fox Sports.

The 30-year old was reportedly released from the Alfred Hospital after not requiring further surgery for a stab wound on his chest.

He was originally expected to be discharged on Thursday or Friday.

Steven did not inform police the details surrounding his admission into hospital on Saturday night.

Geelong general manager of football Simon Lloyd said Steven's health was the club's number one priority.

“Obviously it’s being investigated by the police at the moment so we’ve got to be very careful not to speculate and make assumptions,” Lloyd told reporters.

“We’ll allow the police to do all their investigations.

“Really at the moment the focus is on health and support for Jack.”

The midfielder was traded from St Kilda to Geelong in the off-season in exchange for pick 58.
