Collingwood forward Jack Ginnivan sparked fears among Magpies fans after leaving the ground in pain during his club'sĀ intra-club match, suffering a suspected left knee injury.

The 20-year-old was playing in Collingwood's pre-season match when he went down with an injury just prior to half-time, spending around five minutes with trainers before heading off the ground with a limp.

While a significant setback was first feared, Ginnivan has come away with a cut on his knee, with the youngster requiring stitches in his leg as the only ailment on record from the intra-club outing.

"We pretty much got through unscathed," Collingwood assistant Hayden Skipworth told club media after the match.

"Ginni had a few stitches to his knee but that was about all."

It is expected that Ginnivan will be available for Collingwood's Round 1 match against Geelong on Friday, March 17, while the gun forward may also be in the frame for pre-season matches against Carlton and Hawthorn in the coming weeks.Ā

Ginnivan managed 23 games last year, kicking 40 goals while averaging 9.7 disposals.
