AFL football boss Greg Swann has been called to crackdown on throws creeping into today's game.

Fans and supporters would notice most weekends that a host of players are bypassing free kicks against for disposing the ball illegally, which is largely due to the umpires being out of place to make the correct call.

Speaking on the Six Points AFL podcast, co-host Daniel Harford is disappointed in the number of throws creeping into today's game.

"We've talked about this before, it's the greatest disgrace, the greatest tragedy in the history of the game," Harford said.

"The allowance of throwing to creep in as a legal disposal into the competition.

"The integrity of disposal must be protected. At the moment, it's just free willy.

"Just get the ball out anyway you can, and we'll count it because it's continuous play, which is what headquarters wants, drives me bananas."

Mark Stevens believes the AFL and Swann should be one the front foot about the issue, and suggested they need to crack down on throws.

"So what can we do, should be a memo from Greg Swann just to stamp this out," Stevens said.

"There are too many throws in footy.

"Particularly with a greasy ball they just let it go, and the players have got so good at disguising it."
