Adelaide ruckman Sam Jacobs is set for a six-week stint on the sidelines after undergoing knee surgery on Wendesday.

The 31-year old suffered a right knee knock in the Crows' round two clash against Sydney and has not played since.

Adelaide science and medical services coordinator Steve Saunders confirmed that surgery was opted for due to ongoing symptoms.

"Given the complex nature of Sam’s meniscal pathology, a period of time and conservative management was first required," Saunders told the club's website.

"It became clearer this week, with persisting meniscal signs under graduated load progressions, that surgical intervention would serve him best in both the short and long-term.

"We expect Sam to progress quickly through the next 4-6 weeks of rehab and be back to his best."

The Crows meet Gold Coast this Sunday at Adelaide Oval.
