Hawthorn youngster Bailey Macdonald has signed a three-year extension, denying interest from Melbourne to remain in Dingley.
Macdonald's new deal ties him to the Hawks until the end of 2029.
The Demons were hunting the speedy defender, but remain in the chase for forward Calsher Dear.
This year was a breakout season for Macdonald, having played 14 games including the two finals matches.
“After eight games in his first two seasons, Bailey smashed through that number to play 14 games in 2026, including two key finals," Hawthorn National List & Recruiting Manager Mark McKenzie said.
“Often tasked with shutting down some of the opposition's most dangerous small forwards, Bailey demonstrated his continued development and competitiveness as a versatile defender, whilst also showcasing his offensive running power.
“We're delighted Bailey is continuing his journey in the brown and gold and very excited about what his future holds.”
The Hawks will be one of the busiest teams in the off-season as they attempt to successfully lure Ben King and Zach Merrett.
Essendon has tabled a deal for young Hawk Noah Mraz, and the Tullamarine club is hopeful he could be part of the Merrett negotiation.
There's also a wait on a potential King deal and whether Gold Coast match the free-agency bid and force a trade, or accept compensation, which is set to be Pick 7.
Hawthorn also holds an interest in Josh Goater from North Melbourne.
The club announced the delistings of James Blanck, Henry Hustwaite, Bodie Ryan, Cody Anderson and Jaime Uhr-Henry from its list on Thursday.
