This week, we’re bringing back five players from Hawthorn's past as a gift to their footy-starved fans.
We’re not necessarily picking the five best players of years past, but rather those stars still in the memory of Hawks fans and most likely to deliver some much needed excitement. Or for a variety of other reasons, like players with unfinished business, that fill team needs or would offer good marketing revenue during these tough times.
Any returning player comes back at the peak of their powers, which is just as well, because sentimentality aside, we're pretty sure Clarko would have no qualms about dragging these club legends if they came back out-of-shape and middle-aged...
4. Chance Bateman
Every club needs a cult hero - and when you combine Chance Bateman's speed, his eye for the ball, and flowing dreadlocks, you've just about got all the ingredients you need. Hawks fans will never forget Bateman bursting through the 50-metre line to get the party started in the 2008 Grand Final.
Re-injected into the Hawthorn 22, Bateman would prove a livewire on the wing, providing many more of those crowd-rousing moments - and if the crowds aren't there in person, Hawks fans can always cheer from home while tending to their Changa-inspired dreadlocks.
