If Essendon fail to defeat Richmond in Friday's Dreamtime clash at the MCG, coach Brad Scott could be shown the door, according to Six Points AFL co-host Mark Stevens.
The Bombers added another disappointing loss to their record under their head coach, falling to the Dockers by 43 points in front of a low crowd at the MCG.
Scott's side has had just the one victory this season, coming against the Demons in Round 5, and if they lose this week, Stevens believes Scott's Essendon coaching tenure could be over.
“Well, if they lose to Richmond, that's it for Brad Scott," Stevens said.
"Dreamtime game, that would put Brad Scott to sleep; he would be in his slumber forever, if they lose this game from a coaching perspective.
"Surely they can't lose to the Tigers, but the Tigers are at least playing with some passion and pride, and they kept coming against St Kilda, so I wouldn't rule it out.”
Daniel Harford believes the Bombers have to prove that they are not the worst team in the AFL at the moment.
“Essendon, it's 1-23 they've won, the last 23 games, they've won one game, that's a horrible record," Harford said.
“That first quarter (against Fremantle) in particular, looked like an under tens game, just players chasing the ball around the field, there was no system or structure whatsoever.”
"They've got a big three weeks coming up too, they've got Richmond on a Dreamtime game this weekend, then they've got West Coast and Carlton.
"There's a three-week block for Essendon, to say at least they're not the worst team in football, because at the moment they are looking pretty much like it."
Stevens said he feels sorry for Essendon fans after their loss on Sunday.
“You know what, I felt sorry for them, I thought it must be tough being an Essendon fan," Stevens said.
“Three goals basically in the first two or three minutes for Freo, that is pathetic from Essendon.
"All you want to ask, at least start well in the first quarter, Brad Scott came out and said, look, we didn't come to play, the contest was poor, nowhere near the level in the first quarter, well, whose faults that, that should be the coach getting them up and about."
