Hawthorn's impressive 16-point victory on the road against Gold Coast has come with a casualty.

After welcoming back key defender Tom Barrass for the first time since Round 9, the Hawks are now expecting to miss gun half-back Jarman Impey after the 30-year-old injured his hamstring on Friday night.

Hawks coach Sam Mitchell said two of the side's premier run-and-gun players were feeling sore after the game against the Suns.

"I think (Karl Amon) has been carrying a bit," Mitchell said in the post-game presser.

"He has a bit of a sore knee at the moment, but he has been managing that pretty well. I think he will be okay, he has been managing that for a while.

"When a play of Amon's quality comes off and they're a bit sore, I think they will probably be okay.

"But with Impey he is a pretty powerful athlete and probably on track for a first All-Australian, but it looks like he came off with a hamstring so time will tell. Hopefully it's cramp."

After adding three more goals to his tally, mercurial forward Nick Watson has moved to equal-third in the Coleman Medal race on 36, tied with Sydney's Charlie Curnow.

Watson only sits behind teammate Jack Gunston (39) and Gold Coast's Ben King (42) in the chase for the coveted award in just his third season.

The last man under six foot to win the Coleman was North Melbourne legend Malcolm Blight in 1982, so Watson would be looking to break a 44-year record.

When asked on what Watson's ceiling is in the game, Mitchell said he was just looking to get out of his young star's way.

"(Watson) is an easy and a hard player to coach," he said.

"He is easy because he does so many good things, and he is hard because you want to help him and you want to talk to him, but he can do things that certainly the rest of us can't, so to coach him is basically get out of his way and make sure he knows that he needs to become great.

"He is not that yet and he will start working towards it and continue to be. Whatever the ceiling is, it is our job to create an environment that makes it as high as possible."
