Hawthorn have announced Box Hill forward Fergus Greene will join the club's AFL list for the 2023 season.

Greene will gains the promotion into Sam Mitchell's squad through the delisted free agency period following a stellar season in the VFL for the Hawks.

The former Western Bulldogs forward booted 53 goals from 17 games for Box Hill in 2022, adding to a stellar run of form that has been struck since his departure from the top flight.

The Bulldogs parted ways with Greene at the end of the 2020 season, with the Sandhurst product managing five games for a return of five goals during his time at Whitten Oval.

"We're really thrilled to have secured the services of Ferg, he's an exciting player with a lot of potential," Hawks list manager Mark McKenzie said in a club statement.

“We identified we needed more forward line support, and Ferg's attributes suit the way Sam and our coaching group want to play.

“With some exposure already at AFL level and a really impressive two seasons in the VFL, we believe Ferg will be a great fit for our young and developing group.”

Greene has booted 78 goals in the VFL in 25 across the past two seasons, a spell that includes 16 hauls of three goals or more.
