West Coast defender Liam Baker has addressed Nathan Broad's links to the Eagles.

Baker and Broad played in the 2019 and 2020 premierships together and are close mates from their time at Richmond.

Broad has publicised his intention to return to his home state of Western Australia at the end of this year for family reasons and is open to playing on with a Perth-based club.

"I think he would help us a lot; his leadership, his understanding of the role and (how) demanding (he is) of teammates would be great for a team like us and where we're at," Baker said on Triple M Perth on Thursday.

"I've had a few conversations with him, and he's keen to come back, whether that's playing or coaching, and we'll leave that up to the club, but we'd love him at West Coast, that's for sure, he'd be a great asset."

Broad was selected as a mature-ager in 2015 and has carved out an 186-game career as an undersized key defender for Richmond.

He has expressed an interest in coaching and has been a critical piece for a developing Richmond lineup in recent years.
