GWS have been forced to replace veteran midfielder Callan Ward from their squad for Saturday's trip to Geelong.

The Giants have revealed Ward is dealing with illness and won't face the Cats this weekend, with young utility Jacob Wehr coming into Adam Kingsley's side.

GWS have named second-year onballer Harry Rowston as an emergency following Rowston's promotion.

The Giants made four changes on Thursday night at selection, with James Peatling, Leek Aleer, Ryan Angwin and Toby McMullin coming into the side that lost to the Western Bulldogs in Round 10.

Wehr was initially an out, listed as an omission alongside Conor Stone (omitted), while duo Darcy Jones and Jack Buckley both suffered injuries last week.

The Giants face Geelong at GMHBA Stadium at 4:35pm (AEST) on Saturday as they look to snap a three-game losing run.
