GWS star Tom Green has penned a two-year extension to remain at the Giants amid heavy interest from Tasmania.

Green was set to enter 2027 as a free agent, and with the Devils looming with a big paycheque, his decision is monumental for the New South Wales club.

The star on-baller graduated from the Giants academy, and was selected with Pick 10 in the 2018 draft.

Green has played 115 games for the club, and won the Kevin Sheedy Medal in 2025. He missed the entirety of this season due to an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.

The new deal takes Green to unrestricted free agency given he'll be at the club by that point for 10 years.

“Tom is a very important leader of our footy club and ensuring he's a GIANT for the next three years is a fantastic result,” outgoing GWS chief executive Dave Matthews said.

“Tom has been a Giant since joining our Academy in Canberra and since then he's personified exactly what it means to be a Giant both on and off the field and to have him remain a Giant amid such rival interest is a profound moment for us as a club.

“Tom embodies everything that the Giants stand for and to have him recommit to the club is really significant as we enter what is a really exciting time for the club.

“While his football speaks for itself as one of the best players in the competition, he's also an incredible leader and a terrific person who set the standard for his teammates around him.

“Tom helps form a really exciting core of leaders at our club and his decision to stay at the Giants is going to be an immensely popular one across his teammates and the whole club.

“While it was unfortunate to see him miss the entire 2026 season, the way he's attacked his rehab is first class as you'd expect, and following this news we can't wait to see him back out there next year doing what he does best.”

He looms as the next captain after Toby Greene departed the club, joining Geelong as a free agent.
