The GWS Giants have their eyes on North Melbourne's number one pick in this year's AFL National Draft, a move that could potentially aid discussions on Jason Horne-Francis making his way to Port Adelaide.

Port Adelaide, North Melbourne and West Coast were reportedly involved in talks earlier in the week which would see a several picks swap hands to unlock both the Horne-Francis and Junior Rioli trades, with the Giants now entering into the mega deal.

Per reports from afl.com.au, the Giants are keen to exchange picks 3 and 12 for North's coveted no.1 selection, with West Coast's pick no.2 potentially heading to Arden Street.

The Giants have stockpiled picks for this year's draft, with the club currently possessing three, 12, 15, 18 and 19, leaving them primed to trade for pick one.

The mega trade would see the Giants land the pick, Rioli and Horne-Francis move to the Power, with North receiving picks two and three for their young gun, while the Power would receive picks eight and 12 for Rioli.

Following the revelation that Horne-Francis, who was drafted to the Kangaroos in 2021, was seeking an exit from the club, North have remained firm that only a compelling deal for the club will see the deal done.

Rioli meanwhile, is facing plenty of roadblocks in his quest to end up at Alberton, with the Eagles reportedly prepared to let the 27-year-old walk to the pre-season draft should they not be able to reach a suitable deal.

The 2022 AFL trade period will run until 7:30pm (AEST) on Wednesday, October 12.
