Chris Scott and Ross Lyon are appointment viewing when fulfilling their media commitments at the best of times.
When the two gruff operators are trading barbs, that watchability only skyrockets, as has happened in recent days.
After Geelong superstar Bailey Smith insinuated that tagger Marcus Windhager's talents were not being fully realised in being assigned a cooling role on Geelong's dynamic midfielder, Ross Lyon hit back, spraying the polarising, mullet-sporting cult figure.
"It's interesting. He's (Windhager) been playing halfback, I think he's had two tagging jobs all year, and Bailey was running rampant with no-one on him," Lyon said on Thursday.
"And then Windy put him to sleep.
"The horse trying hardest in the race is self-interest, right? Bailey often talks without thinking, doesn't he? At least he's not sending emojis out on texts this time," Lyon finished.
After Geelong's victory over the Demons on Friday night, Chris Scott took his turn on the soapbox, laughing off Lyon's masterclass in deflection.
"I don't listen to that stuff," Scott said, before journalists filled him in on Lyon's comments.
"He's got nothing but a sharp tongue, Ross; that's why I find him so entertaining," Scott offered
The two coaching heavyweights are slated for appearances on Fox Footy's AFL360 program come Monday, with Scott doing his part to stoke the flames of a potential confrontation when those obligations come home to roost.
"Tune in - we might have it out, there," Scott smiled.
