Gold Coast games record holder David Swallow is reportedly open to continuing his AFL career and playing on in 2026, according to 9 News' Tom Morris.

It would be a retirement backflip from the 35-year-old, who finished his tenure at the Suns on an enormous high, clinching the club's first ever post-season win in their 15-season history with a point in the dying seconds of their elimination final against Fremantle.

"After announcing his retirement just five weeks ago, I understand Gold Coast games record holder and elimination final hero David Swallow is exploring the possibility of playing on," Morris said on Tuesday night.

"The 32-year-old is open to building on his 249-game career, with clubs aware of his desire to continue."

While no club has reportedly committed to the Suns veteran, West Coast are the favourites to acquire his services should he officially confirm his intent to play AFL in 2026. Swallow played junior football in Western Australia for East Fremantle before being drafted by the Suns in 2010 with Pick 1.

Swallow was the last remaining member of the club's inaugural squad and retired as a former captain of the club (2019-2021) and as a best and fairest winner (2014).
