The Gold Coast Suns have flagged their interest in Collingwood's Jarrod Witts, with coach Rodney Eade prioritising a ruckman during the upcoming trade period.

Eade, who knows Witts well from his days at Collingwood, believes he could be an ideal pickup as the Suns look to recover from a disappointing 2016.

Current Gold Coast number one ruckman Tom Nicholls is out of contract, and while the rumour mill continues to spin talk of him leaving, the Suns are adamant he is close to re-signing.

Gold Coast believes the addition of Witts would lighten the load on Nicholls and allow young star Peter Wright to play mainly as a forward.

It's believed fellow Queensland team Brisbane has also shown strong interest in the ruckman, but if he were to leave Collingwood, the Suns would be his preferred destination.

  1. This is complete bullshit considering Tom Nicholls just re-signed. Report real news instead of pulling this shit out of your arse.

  2. Pies will get pick 27 for him which will be overs and a great result for us. Witts will only be insurance for Grundy at Pies but could handle the number one spot in the weaker teams such as Gold Coast and Brisbane.
Big blokes take a lot longer to mature but to be fair Witts at the moment is almost in between VFL and AFL level. He doesn’t have that mean streak required and unfortunately not a great contested mark. I wish him well he can go on and have a solid career elsewhere and the Pies can use pick 27 to snare Deledio.
