The GWS Giants are continuing their search for their next senior coach after the resignation of Leon Cameron, with a member of Carlton's coaching panel emerging as a contender, per reports from the Herald Sun.

Days after reports from Triple M emerged identifying three names as front runners in the coaching search - Adem Yze, Mark McVeigh and Don Pyke - another assistant coach has entered the fray to secure the senior coach gig.

Ashley Hansen, who joined the Blues as an assistant coach in 2021, is looming as a dark horse to get the job, with the Giants reportedly interested in interviewing a host of highly rated assistant coaches around the country.

Former Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson still remains the favourite to get the top job, coaching the Hawks to four premierships during his 390 games at the club. The master coach has been at the front of much speculation since his departure from Waverley Park, but has come out and said he will only return to coach a team firmly in the premiership window.

McVeigh currently holds the reins in the top job after taking over in Round 10, winning two of his first three games to get the Giants' season back on track after a disappointing opening campaign.

Current Giants assistant James Hird has found his name circulated among the possible contenders, but neither the former Essendon coach or the club have confirmed if Hird will be putting himself up as a candidate.

The Giants will face the Western Bulldogs in Round 14 on Saturday night after a strong Round 13 performance over the struggling Kangaroos.

The club currently sits 13th on the ladder with a 4-8 win-loss tally.
