GWS Giants captain Toby Greene will be a free man at the end of the year, and it seems no one knows where he'll go next.
A trio of Giant figureheads are unsure Toby Greene will do about his contract, offering concerns about his decision.
"We're desperate to keep him, I'm desperate to keep him," Giants coach Adam Kingsley said.
Greene has played exclusively for the Giants since his debut in 2012 and has been the club's captain since 2023. However, his contract will expire at the end of the 2026 season and is yet to sign a new one.
The Giants have tabled a three-year extension worth around $2 million, but no clear movement has been made.
"Our hope is to keep him and our expectation is that he'll stay," Kingsley added.
Kingsley's expectation however, does nothing to influence the rumour mill which has linked Greene with a desire to return to his home state, Victoria. This seems to have sparked concern amongst the club, with head of talent Adrian Caruso saying that they are dedicated to proving the Giants worth to Greene.
"We've just got to continue to show him that we're the best option for him and I'm confident we can do that," Caruso told Zero Hanger.
"I really don't know exactly where his head's at but I get the sense that he's going to have a proper think over the bye," Green said.
"He's also been really open about he's going to move back to Melbourne post football, but I personally don't think that that really affects what's going to happen with his contract."
When asked if he knew what Greene was thinking, Kingsley admitted that he wasn't sure.
"Ultimately it's a bit bigger than me asking him to stay," the Giants coach said. "It's about family, it's about his wife, his daughter, his mum. He's been here a long time...he can make decisions and we hope it ends in our favour."
